Roberts’ dissenting opinion accused the court of acting irrationally and disregarding the public health expertise of the state.
“It is a significant matter to override determinations made by public health officials concerning what is necessary for public safety in the midst of a deadly pandemic,” he wrote.
Reading Robert’s opinion, you have to ask yourself “Is there any situation where some government official, in the name of public health, can’t violate any Constitutional right we have?” If that’s the case, that all it takes is some public health crises, then our Constitutional rights can be chucked aside pretty easily.
If the US Supreme Court had not struck down this latest edict, you can just about be guaranteed the next step would be politicians declaring a public health crises due to gun violence and our 2nd amendment rights would be checked aside just as easily as our freedom of religion.
