The EPA was responsible (recall a contractor they hired to work on a mine actually caused the spill) for millions of gallons of toxic water being spilled into the Animas River. Did anyone at the EPA lose their job? Anyone get prosecuted? Did the EPA pay any fines? Wasn’t the EPA responsible for this contractor’s work? Can a corporation hide behind a sub-contractor? The EPA brags on its website about the number of prosecutions its responsible for – why isn’t the EPA held accountable when it is the party responsible? A company spilled oil into a couple rivers in Michigan in the last so many years and settled for tens of millions of dollars.
