More from Providence

Here is a paragraph from the executive summary of the study done by John Hopkins University on the Providence RI school district:

We know from existing data that student achievement in Providence has been low for decades. Despite the hard work of countless teachers, administrators, and city employees, the latest RICAS scores show that, across the grade levels, a full 90 percent of students are not proficient in math, and a full 86 percent are not proficient in English Language Arts.

86-90% of students are not proficient.  You can read the full JHU report here.

Let that sink in – how many Washington politicians, that oppose vouchers, charter schools etc etc,  you know, the kinds of tools a parent might use to avoid public schools, would voluntarily let their children go to Providence public schools?  Probably none.

It’s time for the public school monopoly to come to an end.
